Version 1 · Effective Oktubre 10, 2026
PHL Trails for UNESCO ("we", "us") runs the PHL Trails for UNESCO website and mobile app. This policy explains what we collect when you use them, why, and the choices you have. We follow the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173).
What we collect
If you only browse. You can explore heritage sites, trails, events and maps without an account. We do not ask who you are.
If you create an account. We keep your email address, the name you choose to show, and a profile photo if you add one.
What you do with your account. Places and trails you save, itineraries you build, the QR codes you scan at heritage sites and partner establishments (which place and when), trail progress, quests and the experience points (XP) you earn, and which versions of this policy and our terms you agreed to.
Location. The app uses your location only while a feature needs it: to show where you are on the map, to tell you when you arrive at a heritage site, and to suggest places and events near you. We record events — "arrived at Miagao Church", "finished a trail stop" — never a continuous track of where you have been. Suggestions for things near you are worked out on your phone; your position is not sent to us for them.
Notifications. Reminders, suggestions and trivia are scheduled on your phone. We do not keep a profile of what you open.
Why we use it
- To run your account and keep your saved places, itineraries and passport in step across your devices.
- To record visits, award XP and show the leaderboard (only your display name and XP appear there).
- To show you places, events and trivia that are relevant to you.
- To keep the service safe and working, and to understand, in aggregate, which places people visit.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We use service providers to host the service (database and authentication, web hosting, maps). They process data only on our instructions. Heritage site managers and partner establishments see visit counts and totals, never who visited.
How long we keep it
Account information is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, your personal information is deleted, apart from anything the law requires us to keep.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent at any time. You can turn notifications and location off in the app or in your phone's settings. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. You may also complain to the National Privacy Commission.
Children
The service is meant for a general audience. If you are under 18, please use it with a parent or guardian's permission.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we publish a new version here with its date. If the change matters for how we use your information, the app asks you to read and agree to it before you continue.
